According to an article written in the NY Times, the top 5 most popular account passwords are:
1. 123456
2. 12345
3. 123456789
4. password
5. iloveyou
Not exactly secure, eh? If you use these passwords or anything similar for an account, I urge you to change them to something more secure. You’re just asking to be hacked if you don’t! Here are two easy tips to create more secure passwords.
1. My favorite way to create a password is with an acronym. Come up with an easy to remember sentence and create a password based on the first letter of each word in that sentence. For example: “My name is Joe Blow and I was born on the 1st of January”. If this was your sentence, than your password would be MniJBaIwbot1oJ. Just a little more difficult to crack than 123456, right?
2. There are tons of password generator websites you can use to create a password. Though it won’t be as easy to remember the password, they are a good way to create a number of secure passwords fast. This is my favorite Password Generator site. It offers a number of options including setting the password length and the number of passwords you want.
