IPv6 stands for Internet Protocol version 6. IPv6 is the next generation of internet protocol addressing and will eventually succeed IPv4. IPv6 is also appropriately referred to as IPng (Next Generation).

The Main Advantage of IPv6

IPv6 technology has become necessary because IPv4 is quickly running out of address space. "Address space" refers to the set of all possible IP addresses. If the current IP address space were to be exhausted, there wouldn't be anywhere for webmasters to put their new websites and the internet would have difficulty growing.

A2 Hosting customers do NOT need to be concerned about IPv4's limitations thanks to our dual stack network and plans to migrate to our IPv6 system. IPv6 eliminates the potential problem of running out of IPs due to address space contstraints. IPv6 has a massive amount more available addresses than IPv4. IPv6 uses a 128-bit address space compared to the 32-bit address space found with IPv4. That means that the IPv6 address space is 79 octillion times larger than that of IPv4!
