I want to start by thanking all our clients for the patience and support they have shown the A2 Hosting team over the last week. I understand that as an A2 Hosting customer you have specific expectations regarding the level of service you should be receiving from your web hosting provider. Please know A2 has been working diligently to investigate and respond to the service interruption. We want to provide an update on our investigation and response and to apologize for this situation.
It is important to note that A2’s billing systems and internal infrastructure were not compromised in any way. This incident appears to have targeted our Windows hosting services. To date, there is no evidence suggesting our Linux hosting services have been affected by this incident.
On April 22, 2019, our System Monitoring team was alerted to a service interruption involving our Windows Hosting services. We immediately began an investigation which required us to take certain client services offline to protect system integrity and fully investigate the event. Through our ongoing investigation, it was determined that ransomware infected certain A2 Windows hosting servers which resulted in encryption of files stored on those servers.
We are working with a leading third-party cybersecurity firm to investigate this event. While we have been able to restore most data impacted by this event, we will continue to work with our cybersecurity firm to explore possible avenues to restore data. We have also reported this event to law enforcement.
Please know that providing our clients with superior services is our highest priority. We will continue to keep you apprised of substantive developments relating to our investigation and response to this event. Once more, I appreciate your continued patience while we continue to navigate this tough time.
