Configuring the default document in Plesk

This article describes how to configure the default document for your web site in Plesk.

The default document is the first file the server sends when someone visits your site. The default document is usually index.html or index.php, but you can configure it to be any file you want.

Configuring the default document

To configure the default document in Plesk, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to Plesk.
    If you do not know how to log in to your Plesk account, please see this article.
  2. Locate the domain you want to configure, and then click IIS Settings:

  3. Under Common settings, in the Default documents section, select Enter custom value.
  4. In the Enter custom value list box, type the document name you want to use as a default document on a new line.

    The server attempts to serve the first file in the list. If that file does not exist, the server tries to load the next file in the list, and so on. To assign the highest priority to a file, make sure it is at the top of the list.
  5. Click OK. The filenames in the list box are used as the default documents.
