How to set up a guestbook in cPanel

This article describes how to use cPanel's CGI Center to set up a guestbook for your web site. A guestbook allows visitors to leave comments, and you can make a guestbook public or private.

Simple guestbook

You can use the simple guestbook script to create a guestbook for your visitors to sign. You can modify the guestbook's appearance, and you can view and manage guestbook entries.

Creating a guestbook

To create a guestbook, follow these steps:

  1. In the Software/Services section of the cPanel home screen, click CGI Center. The CGI Center page appears.
  2. Click Simple Guestbook.
  3. In the Copy and paste the HTML below into your web page text box, copy the HTML code and paste it into your web page.
    You can modify the HTML code and the form's appearance however you want. As long as all of the fields are present, the script will work correctly.
  4. Upload the web page to your web site and test the script.
Viewing the guestbook

You can view your guestbook to see visitors' comments. You can keep the guestbook private, or you can make it public.

To view the guestbook, follow these steps:

  1. In the Software/Services section of the cPanel home screen, click CGI Center. The CGI Center page appears.
  2. Click Simple Guestbook.
  3. Click View Guestbook. The guestbook appears.
  4. To make the guestbook public, copy the guestbook URL from the browser's address bar. Add a hyperlink that contains the guestbook URL to your web page.
Modifying the guestbook template

You can modify the guestbook template's appearance to control how the guestbook page appears on your web site.

To modify the guestbook template, follow these steps:

  1. In the Software/Services section of the cPanel home screen, click CGI Center. The CGI Center page appears.
  2. Click Simple Guestbook.
  3. Click Edit Guestbook Template.
  4. Modify the template's HTML code.
  5. Click Save.
Deleting a guestbook entry

You can delete guestbook entries if the guestbook gets too long, or if you want to remove certain entries.

To delete a guestbook entry, follow these steps:

  1. In the Software/Services section of the cPanel home screen, click CGI Center. The CGI Center page appears.
  2. Click Simple Guestbook.
  3. Click Manage Guestbook.
  4. Locate the entry that you want to delete, and then click Delete This Entry.
