How To Find SSL Certificate Fingerprints

It is easy to find the fingerprints, sometimes called thumbprints, for certificates by using a web browser. This article contains instructions for finding fingerprints with several popular web browsers.

Chrome

  1. At the left side of the browser's address bar, click on the lock symbol.
  2. In the pop-up dialog box, click Certificate.
  3. On the Certificate dialog box, click the Details tab.
  4. In the list box on the details page, scroll down until the word Thumbprint is visible in the list and then click Thumbprint.
  5. The thumbprint will be shown in the textbox below the list box.

Firefox

  1. At the left side of the browser's address bar, click on the lock symbol.
  2. In the pop-up dialog box, click the arrow to the right of Connection to bring up the Site Security page.
  3. At the botom of the Site Security page, click More Information.
  4. The Security tab should be selected by default. If not, click on the Security tab.
  5. Click the View Certificate button to view the Certificate Viewer dialog box.
  6. The fingerprints are shown at the bottom of the General tab.

Edge

  1. At the left side of the browser's address bar, click on the lock symbol.
  2. In the pop-up dialog box, click the View certificate link.
  3. Certificate details will be shown in the Certificate Information panel at the right side of the browser.
  4. In the textbox on the Certificate Information panel, scroll down until the fingerprint information is visible.
