How to install ISPConfig using the A2 QuickInstaller

This article describes how to use the A2 QuickInstaller to install ISPConfig on your server.

The A2 QuickInstaller is no longer supported, and is only available on older VPS hosting packages. On newer VPS hosting packages, you can use Webuzo to quickly and easily install a wide range of applications and manage your server.

ISPConfig requires at least 1 GB of RAM. If your VPS has only 512 MB of RAM, you must upgrade the amount of RAM before you can install ISPConfig.

Installing ISPConfig

To install ISPConfig, follow these steps:

  1. Use SSH to log in to your system as the root user.
    To use the A2 QuickInstaller, you must log in as the root user using SSH. You cannot use the serial console in the VPS Control Panel to run the A2 QuickInstaller.
  2. To start the A2 QuickInstaller, type the following command, and then press ENTER:
    sh /usr/sbin/quickinstaller.sh
  3. Under Application Installers, type the option number for Control Panel, and then press ENTER.
  4. On the Control Panel Menu, type the option number for ISPConfig, and then press ENTER. The A2 QuickInstaller updates your system, and then begins the installation process.
    The installation process takes some time to complete. Do not interrupt the installation process.
  5. There are many dependencies that the A2 QuickInstaller must install before the ISPConfig installation process begins. Press ENTER whenever you are prompted to do so.
  6. When the A2 QuickInstaller prompts you to provide SSL certificate settings for the FTP server, you can enter specific values or press ENTER to leave the fields blank.
  7. When the A2 QuickInstaller prompts you for initial e-mail list settings, type an e-mail address and password.
  8. The ISPConfig installation process begins. At the Select language prompt, press ENTER.
  9. At the Installation mode prompt, press ENTER.
  10. At the Full qualified hostname (FQDN) of the server prompt, press ENTER.
  11. At the MySQL server hostname prompt, press ENTER.
  12. At the MySQL root username prompt, press ENTER.
  13. At the MySQL root password prompt, type the MySQL root password that the A2 QuickInstaller provided earlier.
  14. At the MySQL database to create prompt, press ENTER.
  15. At the MySQL charset prompt, press ENTER.
  16. When the A2 QuickInstaller prompts you to provide SSL certificate settings for the SMTP server, you can enter specific values or press ENTER to leave the fields blank.
  17. At the ISPConfig Port prompt, press ENTER to accept the default value of 8080. To use a different port to access ISPConfig, type the port number and then press ENTER.
  18. At the Do you want a secure (SSL) connection to the ISPConfig web interface prompt, press ENTER.
  19. When the A2 QuickInstaller prompts you to provide SSL certificate settings for the web server, you can enter specific values or press ENTER to leave the fields blank.
  20. At the A challenge password prompt, press ENTER.
  21. At the An optional company name prompt, press ENTER.
  22. When installation is complete, the A2 QuickInstaller provides configuration information about the ISPConfig installation.

Testing the ISPConfig installation

To verify that ISPConfig installed correctly, follow these steps:

  1. Use your web browser to go to the following URL, where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx represents your server's IP address:
    https://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:8080
    The login page appears.
    Your web browser may display a warning about the certificate. You can ignore this warning.
  2. In the Username text box, type admin.
  3. In the Password text box, type admin.
  4. Click Login. The ISPConfig administration page appears.
