What is CakePHP?

CakePHP was launched in April, 2005 by Michal Tatarynowicz. He wanted to write a PHP framework using many of the same principles found in Ruby on Rails. The resulting solution was a minimal framework that encouraged rapid development that Michal called Cake. Cake was soon made available to the public for their use. At the end of the same year in December, G. J. Woodworth and L. Masters launched the Cake Software Foundation. In May 2005, version 1.0 was released.
