Getting started with Managed WordPress

Mananging a WordPress installation can be complex. A2 Hosting Managed WordPress simplifies every part of the process. This article introduces the tools available in the the A2 Hosting Managed Wordpress product.

Login to Plesk

To start using the Managed WordPress features, log in to Plesk.

If you do not know how to log in to your Plesk account, please see this article.


Managed WordPress comes with WordPress pre-installed so installation may never be needed, but if it is, a step-by-step option is provided.

  1. Click on the Websites and Domains tab at the left.

  2. Scroll to the management area for the domain where WordPress will be installed.
  3. Click the Install button in the management area.

  4. WordPress is installed with default options and then a dialog box is presented offering to install additional plugins. Click Install Plugins or No, thanks.

  5. If No, thanks is chosen, the installation is complete.
  6. If Install Plugins is chosen, further steps are presented.
  7. In Step One, choose the type of site being created by clicking on the appropriate button.
  8. In Step Two, several appropriate plugins are offered. Click the green checkmarks to de-select any plugins not wanted and then click the Install & Continue button.
  9. In the Confirm Installation dialog, click the OK button.
  10. After confirmation, the selected plugins are installed and additional plugins are offered.
  11. Install any additional plugins desired and then click on the Websites & Domains tab at the left side of the control panel.

The WordPress Toolkit

Managed Wordpress includes the WordPress Toolkit which provides many helpful options directly from the Websites & Domains tab.

Simplified Login

To log in to the WordPress admin interface, click the Log In button. The toolkit logs in without requiring an additional password.

Check Security

To check the security of the site, click the Check Security button. The security check includes nine security checks to keep your site secure and optimized.

Manage Plugins

To manage Plugins, click the Plugins button. The Plugins feature enables installation, update, activation and removal of plugins all without logging in to the WordPress admin panel.

Manage Themes

To manage Themes, click the Themes button. The Themes feature enables installation, activation and removal of themes without the necessity of logging in to the WordPress admin panel.

Clone a Site

To Clone a WordPress installation for backup or for development, perss the Clone button. The Clone feature creates a complete copy of a WordPress installation and makes all the necessary configuration changes to create a working site at a subdomain of the original installation.

Sync a Site

To Sync a Cloned site with another WordPress installation, press the Sync button. The Sync feature offers options for syncing files, database or both.

Keep a Site Up-to-date

The WordPress toolkit presents a notification when updates are available. To review and apply updates, click on the Details link.

Additional Toolkit Features

For additional WordPress Toolkit features, click the WordPress tab at the left side of the control panel.
