How to create categories in WordPress

WordPress enables you to categorize blog posts into categories or subcategories, which helps keep the site organized and enables users to more quickly find information. This post will demonstrate how to add a new category to WordPress.

Creating categories in WordPress

To create a category  in WordPress, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to WordPress as the administrator.
  2. On the Dashboard in the left sidebar, click Posts, and then click Customise:

  3. Enter the new category name, slug (for SEO), and a parent category (if any):

  4. The newly created category appears on the right sidebar when the categories menu is expanded during the creation of a new post:

  5. Another option is to use the Add New Category link. Click the Add New Category link, enter a name for the new category, and optionally select a parent category, and then click the Add New Category button:
